I'm off to Stobo Castle for the weekend. It's my birthday on Monday so a girlie weekend with 5 others to Stobo is just what we need. It's been a hectic few weeks and I am ready for a relax in the spa and some nice girlie time with the girls. I'll miss Eilidh and Murray but am so excited at my free time for 24 hours.

My Gran's 80th Birthday
My dear Gran, Harriet, turned 80 on the 11th of December. She's always been a huge part of my life so it was a pleasure to spend her birthday with her. We went to McKenzies and had a lovely meal. David and I gave her a crystal with pictures engraved of all 4 of us in it and the kids gave her mickey mouse turqoise jewellery.
We couldn't fit 80 candles on her cake so we had 8 representing 10 years of her life.
My mum who never finishes meals, ate all her meal. I bet her a facial and amazing what she'll do to get a facial lol.
I think she had a great time over all even if she was shocked by the cake coming out and everyone singing Happy Birthday to her.

David's Birthday
It was David's Birthday but due to my Gran's 80th he started on Sunday with a trip out to Winter Wonderland with our friends and then dinner in Frankie and Benny's. On Monday we had his lovely Dinosaur cake. He got some Homer Slippers, a Digital photo frame and a PSP game. He seemed happy with it all and a nice surprise at one point of the day ;-)
Been Busy
Not blogged in a while. Not too sure where November went.
We're now into December. We've started the preparations for Christmas and we've done David's birthday and my gran was 80 on the same day. We've been to the panto and to Winter Wonderland and will soon be on to my birthday and then Christmas.

It's been a while
It's been over a month since I last blogged. Life as a working mum as well as having 2 children in full time education has been hard to get to grips with. It's nice to be back at work but I truly am hating the supply side of it. I want to be working as part of a team where I get to do my job, get to know the children and enjoy things again. I hate being in a new nursery every week, being asked "are you newly qualified?" cos they have never seen me before cos I am bad for staying close to home.
Homework has become a daily factor here. On a Monday Eilidh does a worksheet. She's more than capable of doing it herself but needs a blether to do it with. Murray usually has reading and a letter to practice. I've worked out. Do Murray's reading in the playground while we wait for Eilidh. Then it's just Eilidh to sort out when we get home. Tuesday both have reading but Murray can do his when we get home and Eilidh does her reading after french.. Wednesday only Murray to do reading. Thursday, this is my hard day *sigh*. I collect both children at 3.15pm as Murray has french. But neither child will wait their turn and I usually have them shouting their reading loudly across the room at me, each trying to be louder than the last.
We celebrated 9 years of marriage on the 17th. I was in bed with a chest infection and so missed my meal out to McKenzies. Was gutted. Hopefully we'll make it before December, but it's doubtful. Murray's 5 on the 30th. Big bowling party happening next week and on his actual birthday he's having a meal out to Fabio's. Am very excited about his birthday but so sad that the last 5 years have passed so quickly. It's only really been the last 2 years that I have enjoyed being his mum and he's such a character these days. He's a complete fruit loop.
Anyway it's time I got sorted making some soup for this week. It's become so cold now but hopefully it won't get too cold.

Thinking
Sometimes I wonder how good a friend I am.
About 15 months ago a good friend of mine e-mailed me one morning saying that things didn't feel right with her dh. So I told her to talk to him and get it off her chest. Believing it was just her 30 week pregnancy hormones, I took my kids to school. I returned home and couldn't believe the return e-mail from her. Her dh had met someone else. I felt such a failure to her. If I hadn't told her to tackle him then she at 30 weeks pregnant wouldn't be looking at life as a single parent. Thankfully they managed to salvage their marriage but I still feel a lot of guilt towards her as a friend as I was the one who led her in to that situation.
I always get that feeling of dread when friends ask me for relationship advice. Before David, I never really had a serious relationship. We've muddled through our relationship having ups and downs. But we've always come out as a team. I don't really discuss things outwith our relationship with anyone else either, so sometimes I think am I treading the right path here.
Things are never easy in relationships but I think the essence is to talk and get things off your chest but also listen to what the other person has to say and take it all on board that you are a partnership.

My Wee Lad
My wee lad has given us some corkers this week, here's my diary
Tuesday - Murray took the tram he got from Beamish to school today. He told the teacher.... "I don't know the name of the place but the shop was called gift shop!" Ooops he's not as into detail as his sister who would have given a detailed description.
Wednesday - I know that Murray went to gym today. How do I know? He put his trousers on back to front and and poloshirt wasn't buttoned back up He got stroppy with me when he realised his pockets were at his bum and not at his front but I had already noticed lol. The other mums told me off for laughing at him.
Thursday - Murray started French club today. I asked him if he enjoyed it and he nodded and said "I can speak french you know!"

Beamish
We decided to go to Durham to Beamish to see the Open Air Museum. We arrived after the Sat Nav sent us some odd back way. But just as we arrived it started to rain but the rain didn't last long. We headed the 1913 town and went to the tea rooms for lunch.
While Having lunch Eilidh and Murray's twins turned up. They eneded up being very tasty.
We had a wander round the town seeing the horses and the bank and all the old fashioned shops. We also popped into the sweetie shop where they meeasured out our rubarb and custard, kola cubes and ABC's in quarters. Been a long time since we could do that.
The kids outside the Post Office come Newsagents.
After a look round the Dentist's house, the Piano Teachers house and another house, we went to the funfair where on the coconut shy, Daddy won a football!!!
Murray tried to go on the train but erm it broke down. So he got his token back and used it on the coconut shy.
Mummy and Eilidh went on the swing boats. You got FOREVER on it. Thought it was never going to end but Eilidh loved it.
Then we walked round to the Colliery village. On the way the kids found a funny steam contraption and climbed in.
We popped into the old school in the Colliery Village. The kids got to play with Old Fashioned toys in the playground.
Then they went indoors for a lesson with slates and the belt. Murray was in the main classroom.
But Eilidh was segregated. Probably for talking too much.
Then back outside to play in the playground with daddy again.
After that we caught the tram to Pockerly Manor and the bus was chasing us along the road.
Then on the way back we got the open top tram back and we sat upstairs as it was nice and sunny again.
We passed the fairground again. Shows what a long walk we went on from there to the colliery village.

Afterwards we made our way to the hotel in Washington and had dinner at the Carvery. But we were all tired so headed back to the room and had a lazy evening.

My Birthday
In December I'm going to reach the big 3 0. So a couple of people had mentioned we should have a spa time away. So we are. I've booked Stobo Castle in Peebles. So far 4 of us are definites and 1 wants to come but needs to book. Very excited about it all. It's only for one night but it will be fantastic and be lovely for the 24 hours we are there.
