I was working in a VERY deprived area school. The school used to be two schools which is currently housed in one of the old schools while a new school is built on the other school's site.
The children were lovely. They mostly have very deprived backgrounds with parents who don't know any other life bar the one they've always known in poverty and on a life of benefits. Quite a few of the children had problems of some sort.
Looking round a few of them obviously get all their clothes from Tesco. They looked like my 2 lol. But when they spoke they were very different. Not just in dialect but in some cases having communication problems. Eilidh and Murray really have no learning problems and are 2 bright children who soak everything up like a sponge as well as having memories like Elephants. Eilidh is so fast at picking things up and she loves learning. Murray learns in his own time but truly takes in more than he lets on.
I have 2 very spoiled children to put it mildly. They want for nothing, love, food, clothing and toys (I could open my own toy shop). I was extremely blessed with 2 wonderful if not stroppy children and I am truly grateful that I have 2 wonderful children as well as having a wonderful supportive husband/friend/colleague. David and I have been together for 10 years now and so much has happened in that time. We have created 2 wonderful children out of love. We have a good relationship when we listen to one another but we do have the best interests at heart of our children and what we want for them in life. I hope they grow up to be happy, well adjusted individuals who are not scared of life but love living life to the full and making the most of the oppurtunities handed to them as a lot of children/young adults will never get offered the opportunities that Eilidh and Murray will.
As a song used to say "Remember the children of the world, each one is precious, precious in our site, send your love to the children of the world, remember them, remember them in your prayers tonight!" Just give that moment to think of the children who do not have all the things and love which Eilidh and Murray have.
